Active Release Technique (ART)
Integrative Spine and Sports offers Active Release Technique (ART) in Manhattan, NY at our Upper West Side practice devoted to sports medicine, spinal rehabilitation and comprehensive physical care.
Active Release Technique is a hands-on therapy designed to aid the body’s natural recovery process. ART incorporates hand pressure and motion-based massage to gently remove scar tissue, alleviate nerve tension and restore flexibility to tight, stressed muscles. This state-of-the-art technique addresses problems with muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves, and is typically used on patients with injuries and chronic conditions resulting from overuse.
ART is especially helpful in the treatment of:
- Back pain
- Temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ)
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Plantar fasciitis
- Shin splints
- Tennis elbow
- Knee problems
Overuse of muscles and soft tissue can cause a build-up of scar tissue in the affected area. This tissue can result in pain, reduced mobility and diminished strength as the scar tissue puts tension on surrounding tendons and nerves, while weakening muscles. ART treatment combines precise and specific tension on affected areas along with directed patient movements to break up scar tissue and reduce the negative consequences it can have on surrounding tissue.
ART is considered the gold standard of treatment in soft tissue movement and is an individualized approach for treating pain resulting from overuse of muscles and the build-up of scar tissue. The specialized treatment is offered by our experienced NY sports chiropractors, who have been trained in the patented ART treatment. We have succesfully used Active Release Techniques for years to relieve pressure on the muscular and nervous systems in patients, improving strength, mobility and flexiblity while reducing pain.
